Plot " The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Pacific Rim Uprising. It was originally slated for a Februrelease and later released March 23, 2018. Pacific Rim Uprising stars John Boyega, Rinko Kikuchi, Scott Eastwood, and Cailee Spaeny. Nowlin and Kira Snyder were later credited as the film's central screenwriters. Several scripts were written by Jon Spaihts and Derek Connolly.
Following the departure of del Toro, pre-production resumed February 2016 with DeKnight as its director. Financial problems between Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures eventually saw production halted indefinitely. While the sequel was announced in 2014, and set for 2017 release, the production experienced multiple delays. Following the story of the son of Stacker Pentecost, Uprising focuses on the aftermath of the Breach's destruction, and the revival of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps and the Jaeger Program under the management of an older Mako Mori. Set in the year 2035, Uprising is set ten years after the events of Pacific Rim.
